Star Knight

Star Knight

Not
Starry
Night

star pulse.
It's a plane,
circle pattern.
Sleep stranger
on  the red  eye
bones seat belted.
A boy in a smurf
 hat travels space.
Me alone under covers.
He's not an unaccompanied minor,  college physics books rest in the overhead compartment.  In between a drooler and a smelly fat man. John Wayne shuts tower for Newport slumber. Rest apple buds in rows. Flaps down unaware that open eyes face swarms of bees, condor cauldron of five hundred endangered wingspans stretch on tightrope wires.  They teach vultures to clear lines with electric shock therapy because touching two worlds: heaven or grave burns Icarus.
Comet above cabin winks.
Passing the sun during
hour the plane is given
permission to land  it
will out gas, shows a
tail to be read by a
soothsayer. I'm here
to reveal the story.
Give love, hunger
 for art, get up upon
failure, each second
goes faster, you fly
 condor with purpose
feel the sound of lift slapping
your soul, make a picture in closed
eyes to recall on days when dark takes
longer and you think an
earthquake breaks you.
Study and fly my son!
You can
You will.

Caroline Gerardo Copyright 12/5/2016 dedicated to my son who
has finals week in University of California. Work hard! Healthy snacks,
all night cram  isn't much sticky brain help but re- read text books and think
about connective culture and research the landscape of internet they call fake news.
Often I think paid news, and paid press writers who I once adored are influenced by circles.
Just circles, end of sentence... be tolerant and read more.

Star Gazing

meteor

Wanderlust
star gazing though
I'm no astronomer.
Eyes are meteor tired this morning
Sticking to my goals, worked late at the office,
ate healthy, edited twenty pages, hiked to the
canyon to see the Perseids shower alone.
How can I say alone when a crowd reached to see?
Strangers whispering and waiting for the sky to open,
sharing a moment with the ancients who sought answers.
Did the Greeks see the same gods as the Shosone?
Firmament reflecting earth, she delivered a
few omens for us. A child spotted the most.
I'm sending you stars to light your way.
You know what bad habit to drop, execute the
difficult chore first, don't waste morning on emails.
Get close to your dream right now.
I hand you the wishing star my friend.

Emily Dickinson Prize Star

Submitting to the Emily Dickinson prize today.
Stuck on which poems to include,
and their format choices are so limited.
Only word or rich text.
I will not be able to add digital video.
Nothing movie- star glamorous.
Perhaps it is too old fashioned for this girl?

Do I send written word that neatly fits on cream colored stock?

Are they looking for Kyrielle Sonnets with my idiosyncratic syntax?

Blair and I found two star fish on our walk yesterday.
The recent swell stole the sand off Strands Beach
leaving creatures who I thought gone from my life, exposed.

Reminiscent raw memories of you flooded up with the crazy star.

Looking down pulsing with light,
his spines are desguised as pebbles,
and bits of Ty Nant blue glass now sanded by the sea.
The Victorians employed blue glass to indicate poison inside.

If Emily met you
(if you venture into her garden,
could she travel to Gloucester to experience the coast?)
would she recognize your venom?

I buried him in the sand and tide to protect other hearts.
