Red

Red is the name of a chicken who figured out how to make the hoot and call

of coyotes. You may not live where there are predatory animals that haunt but

Red taught Dixie a hen to howl with him imitating the meanest coyote pack.

She sings at dawn/ night before she falls to chicken coma, yes, as if she guzzled

two bottles of Merlot wine. Red is a brave color ~ now go make history

Little Lakes Poem and Videos

Little Lakes Fly Fishing

Slabs of Kimberlite press ribbon of quartz.
Ultramafic rock lines bridge over Little Lakes.
Volcanic eruptions formed hidden diamonds, as
lovers under covers, puppy streams between
dogs like water get into fissures.

Tie flies before Rock Creek hike.
Mosquito Flats creates feed for trout.
Every minute of climb a new pool:
Marsh Lake, Heart Lake, Box and Long Lakes
Early Explorer sans poetic imagination rule.
Climb faster than Big Horn sheep - jewels are yours.
Ruby and Gem Lake side trips deliver glacier schools
Swim with Paiutes and tourists but for
heaven's sake don't scare the fish.

Green

Green

Keeps killing the shamrock plant
"Oxalis regnellii," I told him, "doesn't care
for wet feet."
Weed the garden with rubber clogs.
Imitation crocodiles that blister toes.
Be responsible for the earth.
Kindness scraping calloused hands,
roses trim back for winter, and soon
blue and yellow skies turn to spring.

Waves Pound Haiku

Fingers hurt from work ~ thousand waves pound my muscles ~ rowing almost there.

It's Friday
I balance three employment activities
You do two things in this gig economy.
292 thousand new jobs added

Looking forward with joy to finishing
the construction work on the house and
downsizing.
Never never never use mastic to glue to drywall
Words of warning
We hung this beautiful blue cork board on son's wall
A mountain where he hung congratulations certificates,
blue ribbons, and photographs of teams and friends.
When he left for college the awards came down.

Misty ocean calls ~ lighthouse horn reminds from far ~ of the happy house.

2 haikus, thoughts and a video to make you smile

ECO TERRORIST

Rand Green saw his farm go dry. His ancestors survived five generations of hardship, but nothing like the Great Drought. First, there was water rationing. Only those who maintain their rights to underground wells, lakes or river runoff could produce food or keep livestock. Collecting rainwater was outlawed.

By 2022, McNally’s MME Corporation successfully purchased most of the riparian rights in the American West. MME systematically re-routed all the river water with their new dam. Other dams stopped generating hydroelectric power because of the water shortages. The New Macon Dam owned by MME remains operational.

If Rand doesn’t stop McNally, the President of MME, he believes there will be famine and wildfires that release enormous amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Rand packs tools, rations, automatic weapons and his family into the Bobcat, leaving behind the red baby swing on the clothesline.

“We will avenge the displaced.”

Rand is raises his lean arm to brush the dust out of his eldest son’s hair.

“Listen children,” Rand reads from Isaiah 24:4 - 6

“The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.
The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.”

Christmas Vireo Song

DSC_0661

"Your fingerprints touched my life," He said.

"My fingers burn from scratching
the diamonds underneath the ice.
You abandoned us under the lake," I answered.

A boiling pot of water whispers
cinnamon sticks to remind.
Christmas candy childhood
playing with the wisemen.
Gently touch baby Jesus
in the manger,
 taste the horehound
 in dill & thyme amber.

 I believe in Santa.
Maple syrup trees never grow tired.
They remain faithful to their charge.

Love's desire is one last opportunity.

Bell's vireo pair on the glass wall
birds diving for insects,
avoiding pinecones soaked in honey millet.
Warblers don't need crystaline sugar meth.

Male white eye ring summer grass breast
remains faithfully calling to his bride.

"Cheedle cheedle chew," he offers her.

It is a Christmas grandiflora song,
spreading hope to the woodland.
Winging sounds of sleigh bells.

Turmeric Birthday Cake

Aspen Womb
Joy grows inside me.

20 years of Mom choices.

The back of the earrings lost.

The clapper located your keys.

Now I map my way.

Write your own plan well.

Unlimited by constraints of time,

the sieve between life and death.

The moment when golden light hits

Tuscan monstrosity across the canyon.

Don’t look that way-

Reach past the aspen grove dancing.

Fly upon that last single leaf towards ocean,

where slivers of seaweed touch shoulders as

swimming towards turmeric islands.

I’ll pull if you need help.

On this birthday fly and touch the sun.
