Kindness Passes Lightening

Kindness Passes Lightning

Noah works strong, until the blitz
Armageddon shrivels souls in bits

Dose palms of oxy pills hide the pain
Snowflakes shards melt on black coat
Wool  recalls odor of a calf in the rain
Dreams become lost papers on a note.

Megiddo's a hill built upon graves
kindness opportunity rushes silent
lines in the highway flow in waves
holidays forgotten without hot riot.

Linear time  wipes out the past
Drips wear the wonder of crust
Aroma of rising bread  lost fast
A lover's necklace turns to dust.

Witness death of your child
sun on back, ashes apathetic
When nights thin mind wild
bitter peel shrivels lethargic.

Prism reflects from the river
Daily battles keep from seeing
What matters: is being a giver
All religions, good souls being.

Noah works strong  until the blitz
Armageddon shrivels souls in bits

Kindness passes lightening storms

Holiday Cheer

Get rid of holiday blues
Be simple
Be kind

Make
wreaths
fir branches, collect
pine cones, eucalyptus,
no poison ivy Toyon holly thornless
cactus is gorgeous but succulents are easy
green / red plants, wire, hangers, gloves, fishing line
bunches work same as cooking raw spinach, shrinks down.
Spruce, juniper berry, marjoram, pine essential oils no diffuser?
few drops on a plate cheer your soul
Be simple
Be kind

Hot soup -
roast pumpkin cut in half
(seeds removed skin on, soft face up to moon)
generous olive oil in the pan, sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg
bake until the flesh is caramel brown and the house smells yummy
No pumpkin? Use butternut squash, fine chop: onion and garlic
portions unmentioned, saute in olive oil in big pot until clear
add stock, salt, pepper, curry, add roasted gourd in the pot
and simmer. Check and smash as it steams
To put in bowls use a spoon
of Greek yogurt
or go ahead
add heavy
whipping
 cream

great
bread

Melting Hat Story

Woman waits for her ride,
brown bag covers white hair.
Sorrel melts in the rain.
Linda asks, "You need a lift?"
"No, my friend is in route."
Inside the Pack and Ship store
lights shine on bubble wrap.
Linda enters, buzzer rings.
She's on camera overhead.
"May I ask a favor?"
Man looks up from his T. V.
"No." he answers.
"See the lady out front?"
"Yeah, she sent a package."
"May she wait inside from the storm?
He looks up queerly, "Sure, You know her?"
"No but thank you kindly, really thank you."
Linda returns to the barrage, shouting over noise
of traffic and hail.
"Come inside. I'll wait for out here your friend."
"She might miss me?"
Linda insists, the old woman explains
the make and model of the driver's car.
Windshield wipers of Linda's car keep
time with music on the radio.
The woman now inside the store,
with the man,
he  leans forward over the counter.
They smile.

Tamale Share Story

Rose waits in line at the mercado for masa.
Grandmother's gone, but she holds
 traditions of preparing tamales for
Christmas Eve.
The opportunity gathers teenage children
as a binding party before the holiday.

Ten dozen tamales
pork, chicken, and pineapple
The recipe takes 120 ojas (cornhusks) and
fifteen pounds of prepared masa.
Rather than mix cornmeal, shortening oil,
baking powder, and salt by
hand she orders pre-made dough.
Braised and pulled meats steam at home.
Daughter stirs the fillings and juices.

The mercado cannot locate the woman in front of Rosa's order.
"Sold out, perhaps tomorrow, after six, we'll have extra to sell."
The woman ahead of Rosa looks down as if to cry.
"The bus doesn't run tomorrow, I planned to make these
tonight for my Bisabuela in the rest home with extra for nurses."
"Sorry, tomorrow, next in line."
Rosa interjects,"how many pounds do you need?"
"Five, it's okay, I'll buy the dry ingredients and start right away, maybe
I'll have them ready for lunch tomorrow.
"Cut a third off my order." Rosa says.

The Handmaiden Review

The Handmaiden

I saw The Handmaiden last night. Chan-nook's film still has me thinking. A great emotion when a film
stirs.

The story is plotted upon from Welsh novelist Sarah Water's book Fingersmith. Water's novels are wonderful in their own right with period details that will keep that book in hands until the end.Chan-nook changes points in the adaptation, the story is loosely after the novel. It is set in Thirties Korea under Japanese colonial rule. The Handmaiden is a lesbian romance set as a dark crime thriller.Lady Hideko (Kim Min-hee) is a brooding heiress locked away in a off grid estate, a Japanese castle with and English architectural wing. Her evil uncle (played by Cho Jin-woong) plans to marry her to be able to buy more books. Yes, I said, buy more books. The library collection of hard backs and illustrated manuscripts is part I love. The narrative reveals that the collection focuses on sunga, Japanese sexual and dark illustrations.

Count Fujiwara (Ha Jung-woo), a scoundrel without a penny plans to defraud Lady Hideko of her fortune. Sook-hee (Kim Tae-ri) a Dickensian thief with a heart (perhaps cliche). The grounds are spectacular. Chan-nook shares a landscape of rock gardens, blooming cherry and groves of dark pergolas. The film kaleidoscope of greens, ultramarine blue and white are jewels. Chan-nook uses Victorian themes from Waters. Characters wear masks to be English or Japanese. Social ranks are set in stone. Underneath the uncle and his friends who attend sexual readings are depraved. There's art theft, sadism and a dungeon with a hungry octopus. To touch the books Lady wears gloves. Emotions are held back at the dining table and in tuxedo. Underneath is a thriller.

My son, home from college for the weekend, works on an essay about Japan in the Seventh Century. We spoke about privilege, power and Buddhism in the morning. Western education fails to show how Korean art and spiritualism influenced Japan. I was happy he is reading work he was not exposed to in California High School curriculum. We convinced daughter to take a trip to Korea this summer.Park Chan-nook is one of several great filmmakers from Korea.  I encourage you to see the film in a big theater, as the visual experience is lovely.

Purple Martin Found Amelia Earhart

Purple Martin Found

Condominium built on hopes
crowd of swallows creates
Homeowner Association copes
clamor close confines grates

Blame Clytemnestra
Or ask Electra?

Serve rites of the dead
Barnstormer songs of past
sing cher zweet and ched
express cannot last

Purple Martin Found

Fate frustrates aerospace
Kingfisher one engine plane
double vertical tail race
wait on an island in pain

Purple Martin Found

Call Poncho silky spy?
Riding Club tests disaster
her bird house burned asking why
Black martin flying faster.

Fall Simmer

I love Fall
Simmer garlic, onions, peppers and squash...
Vegetables picked before I let the chickens out at dawn.
Shush don't point to poultry there's feed in the lower garden.
You'll find it strange if I tell the names of the chooks.
Dixie is a speckled Sussex. She's first.
Dixie leads a chick band, though she isn't the largest or a rooster.
Dixie is the daughter of my neighbor's male from his rogue visit.

Yesterday I picked the last pumpkins up from the raised beds,
they stand guard outside the front gate.
Chickens will eat pumpkins before Halloween if inside.

Last night coyotes yelped and hollered at three A.M.
With mag flashlight in hand,
I went out to have a meeting with them.
They know I have a shotgun.
"Want me to drive down to the barn and settle this?" I yell.
They gather, silent. No snickers about my nightgown.
Answer came from Dr's barn in the canyon where
puppies cry and the big dogs growl.
Ursula Major and Minor point towards
solar lights in the valley below.
Glow shares from stars to crescent moon,
platinum against a cloudless dome.
Coyotes look up with me in that moment.
The pack's paws crunch on ash leaves,
scattered on rocks, now become softer.
Coy wolves leave without argument.
"Try luck with bucks grazing in the oak grove,"
I whisper to their long gone tails.

Fly Fishing Artist

Ode to Michael Brewster

All days in and near water.
Met Master Fly Fisher Man eighteen years past.
This famous fly tier and angler became a teacher.
Create Ginger Quill, Gold ribbed hare's ear
and pale morning dun of string.
He taught casting, conservancy and cooking.
Lessons share different by students:
forever one in nature;
become conservationists;
catch and release;
or saute salmon on open fire.
Rare Apache trout braves the life of an artist.

Michael taught connection with nature.
He showed courage.

Dressing flies: a silly life,
think what you will;
I swim with steel head.
Grateful to use my gills.

Thank You Michael Brewster
Rest in Peace.

Little Lakes Poem and Videos

Little Lakes Fly Fishing

Slabs of Kimberlite press ribbon of quartz.
Ultramafic rock lines bridge over Little Lakes.
Volcanic eruptions formed hidden diamonds, as
lovers under covers, puppy streams between
dogs like water get into fissures.

Tie flies before Rock Creek hike.
Mosquito Flats creates feed for trout.
Every minute of climb a new pool:
Marsh Lake, Heart Lake, Box and Long Lakes
Early Explorer sans poetic imagination rule.
Climb faster than Big Horn sheep - jewels are yours.
Ruby and Gem Lake side trips deliver glacier schools
Swim with Paiutes and tourists but for
heaven's sake don't scare the fish.

Baths 5 Cents

Baths Five Cents

Water off last night

River drys up, you crave more.
No cheese for Lent, dream of cream.

Fortunately the weather is cooler.
Fog in the morning for the rodeo.

Jackie is pregnant, again...
Promise puppy photograph

Hadn't heard from him a month
text arrives plans made and fail

Am I better off not missing
tub soaks to drain cares away?
je crains la rivière
nettoie votre chanson
